What’s in the box this week?

In stark contrast to last week, we’re in the middle of a ten day 100+ degree spell of hot, hot weather.  Here are the results!

Standard Shares include:

Valley Girl Tomatoes Our first tomatoes!  The perfect balance between meaty and juicy, these vine-ripened little girls are a great all-around tomato: sliced, stewed, blanched, blended, or roasted.  As the first tomatoes of the year, though, I believe you are morally obligated to eat them sliced raw with salt.  We’ll be serving them at the farm party with mozzarella and basil. 

Slicer Cucumbers An old fashioned American slicer cucumber, Marketmore is an excellent fresh eater.  Store them in your crisper and enjoy them within 2-3 days for the most crispness.

Genovese Basil (with roots!) We harvest our basil plants whole bush! As a highly perishable herb, we prefer to yank the whole thing so you can keep the plant in a glass of water, on your counter (not in the fridge!), where it will keep for weeks and make your kitchen smell amazing.  Pick from it as you need.  Please get these in water as soon as possible.

Egg Shares include eggs from our certified organic, pasture-raised, happy hens.

Preserve Share: Either Pickled Beets or Pepperoncini

Vegetable Forecast:  Slicer Tomatoes, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Potatoes, Okra, Onion, Eggplant??
